AIR FLOW MEASUREMENT


Measuring air flow is easy. Measuring it accurately is another story. The primary causes of air flow measurement inaccuracy are:

  • Blockage of the flow element (due to plugging)

  • Inadequate straight duct runs upstream or downstream, resulting in turbulent flows at the measurement point

  • Collapse or blockage of a flow straightening device (honeycomb, etc.)

  • Changes in duct size due to heat or pressure

  • Uncompensated flow measurement by either temperature and static pressure

VAP3 Pitot

The VAP Insertion Pitot is designed for easy installation, via ports, directly in to new or existing duct work. Insertion of a VAP Pitot will ensure an accurate differential pressure output that allows for precise airflow measurement and control of your process.
The VAP Insertion Pitot is designed to perform particularly well in both clean air applications and in heavily particulate-laden applications and can be adapted for use in applications where pitot freezing is a concern. If you are looking for an economical and highly accurate method of measuring air flow in ducts with adequate straight duct runs upstream and downstream, the VAP Insertion Pitot is a great choice.

The DSV is an array of VAP Pitots that are contained within a flanged spool section for easy duct installation

The DSV, or Duct Section VAP incorporates straightening vanes and a VAP Pitot array within a spooled duct section to make installation of the VAP Pitot even easier. The DSV can be quickly bolted in place for new ductwork or can be retrofitted into existing duct work for simple and accurate air flow measurement. Designed for both clean air and particulate-laden air flow measurement applications, the DSV is an accurate, no-hassle air flow measurement device for ducts with adequate straight duct runs upstream and/or downstream.

As not all ductwork allows for proper upstream and downstream straight duct runs, a flow conditioning device is often needed for profiling air flow at the point of flow measurement. The High Beta® Process (HBP) Flow Conditioner is a proprietary-designed flow conditioning device, designed to eliminate cyclonic, turbulent and reverse flow, while minimizing pressure loss in almost any installation, including those with relatively few or almost no straight duct runs either upstream or downstream. The High Beta® integrates flow-straightening vanes and a flow-profiling section with the precise measurement accuracy of the VAP Pitot to offer flow conditioning and accurate air flow measurement, even when placed directly downstream of an elbow, damper or other duct obstruction. The HBP comes in standard sizes that allow the delivery of accurate air flow measurement without the longer lead times associated with custom designs.

High Beta

The High Beta® Engineered or (HBE) is designed to eliminate cyclonic, turbulent and reverse flow, while minimizing pressure loss in almost any installation, including those with relatively few or almost no straight duct runs either upstream or downstream. The HBE is a custom engineered product that is great for combustion air flow measurement in both round or square ducts that are non-standard in size and shape. The HBE is a perfect fit for applications in any industry, but is well suited for the irregular duct work seen in power plants for measuring combustion air flow including primary air, secondary air and over-fired air flow.
